Learning IT skills

SWC is a women’s project based in Sunderland city centre. We provide learning, support and encouragement to women of all ages and backgrounds from all over the City of Sunderland and surrounding areas. Through providing services/activities our aim is to; instill a sense of purpose/achievement and improve prospects of employment and quality of life, freely and without discrimination.  We value equality and cultural diversity, as well as promoting social inclusion to reduce disadvantage, we also encourage and empower women who may feel excluded to realise their potential through offering a first step back into education.

The grant we received from the Wellbank Foundation will go towards a computer literacy programme in the form of basic computer and digital skills courses.  The use of technology in not only workplaces but in everyday life means that it is more important than ever to have the confidence, skills and knowledge to use digital devices such as smartphones, laptops, tablets etc.  The lack of computer skills can leave people at a disadvantage and limit opportunities to improve lives. Being able to offer access to free courses will be invaluable to both Sunderland Women’s Centre and the women attending.
