Gardening at The Meadows

Andy Robson

Meadow Well Connected or The Meadows as it is known locally is a large community centre and extensive community gardens located in Meadow Well in North Tyneside.  The local community is at the heart of everything we do and alongside our amazing staff team is a team of incredible volunteers.  We have volunteers of all ages, from 18 to 94, from all walks of life.  They help us staff our community café and facilitate groups, one of their biggest contributions is in our community gardens.  Over the 3 ½ acres we have community planting beds, poly tunnels, forest school, orchard, pond, picnic and adventure play area.  There is an art trail through the gardens and the space is used or a range of community events in the summer from volunteer BBQ and holiday activities for children through to a music festival for adults with additional needs.  None of this would be possible without our team of volunteers.

Thanks to the Wellbank Trust we will be able to fund the travel expenses of our volunteers. This will enable us to provide volunteering opportunities to people living elsewhere in North Tyneside.   We will also be able to provide volunteers with a cooked lunch from our community café.  This makes our volunteers feel valued and part of our wider community.

Emanuel and some of the other volunteers who facilitated our taste of Africa Day, food, music and a coming together of the community.
